CNC Controllers for Plasma, Oxy-Fuel and Laser Tube Cutting Machines

Radonix combines PC-based motion control, machine I/O and application-specific HMI workflows for verified plasma, oxy-fuel, pipe cutting and 4-axis laser tube or profile-cutting architectures. Controller selection is engineered around the real machine—not around a generic “metal CNC” label.

01 / Application overview

Specify the process, axes and cutting-head architecture.

Metal-cutting performance depends on the mechanics, drives, torch or laser equipment, process timing, I/O and safety implementation. The correct Radonix interface begins with that complete architecture.

Scope boundary: laser tube and profile cutting is verified through the XYZA Profile Cut interface. This does not imply flat-sheet fiber-laser autofocus or universal support for every metal CNC process.

01

Planar cutting

Coordinate XY paths, kerf strategy, leads, pierce timing and process outputs for plasma or oxy-fuel machines.

02

Controlled Z motion

Add pulse/direction Z positioning when the torch requires programmed pierce, cut and retract positions without arc-voltage feedback.

03

Automatic torch height

Use the dedicated XYZ + THC implementation when automatic Z correction from arc-voltage feedback is required.

04

Rotary tube and profile geometry

Coordinate pipe or profile dimensions, rotary mechanics, chuck and clamp zones, and plasma or laser process requirements.

03 / Process architecture

Match motion, height control and rotary geometry.

XY, XYZ, automatic THC and XYZA laser profile cutting describe different motion and process architectures. The machine mechanics and process equipment determine the correct profile.

XY

XY Cutter

Two-axis contour motion with an optional simple Z lift, fixed standoff or manual arrangement.

The lift may use timed up/down outputs. It is not a pulse/direction interpolated Z axis.

No arc-voltage THC
XYZ

XYZ Cutter

Pulse/direction Z positioning supports programmed pierce, cut and retract positions.

Z can be positioned or trimmed, but there is no closed-loop correction from live arc voltage.

No arc-voltage THC
XYZ + THC

XYZ Plasma + THC

Automatic Z correction uses the Radonix THC hardware/software implementation and plasma arc-voltage feedback.

The documented interface exposes target voltage, gain/deadband and enable/hold conditions for the engineered machine.

XYZA

Laser Tube / Profile Cut

XYZ cutting-head motion coordinates with an A-axis rotary chuck for tube and profile geometry.

The verified XYZA Profile Cut workflow covers laser tubes and profiles; flat-sheet autofocus is not implied.

04 / Operator workflow

From prepared geometry to controlled cut.

01

Prepare

Load the supported DXF or G-code workflow and verify scale, origin and cut order.

02

Configure

Set kerf, leads, pierce timing, process outputs and the machine-specific Z strategy.

03

Verify

Dry-run the path and confirm limits, clearances, gas or torch equipment and safety states.

04

Produce

Run with motion, process I/O, alarms and recovery controls visible to the operator.

05 / Controller compatibility

Choose a CNC controller for the complete metal-cutting machine.

Candidate Radonix platforms are selected only after the motion and process architecture is verified. A matching axis count is necessary, but it is not sufficient.

Axes and drivesConfirm XY, Z and any rotary mechanics, pulse/direction compatibility, homing and limit architecture.
Process I/OMap torch start, Arc OK, gas or oxygen valves, purge, pressure/flow feedback and alarms.
THC equipmentVerify the plasma source, isolated arc-voltage signal, Z drive, touch sensing and the dedicated THC interface requirements.
SafetyEngineer E-stop, guards, collision sensing, pressure/flow permissives and machine-specific safety logic.

07 / Technical FAQ

Questions before specification.

This page defines the verified public application scope. Final compatibility still requires the real machine electrical and mechanical record.

Which metal processes are presented as verified?

Radonix presents plasma CNC, oxy-fuel CNC, plasma with dedicated THC, pipe plasma cutting, and 4-axis laser tube or profile cutting through XYZA Profile Cut.

Does XYZ motion automatically mean THC?

No. The XYZ Cutter uses pulse/direction Z positioning without closed-loop arc-voltage THC. Automatic torch-height control belongs to the separate XYZ Plasma + THC interface.

Does Radonix support laser tube and profile cutting?

Yes. The verified XYZA Profile Cut interface coordinates XYZ cutting-head motion with an A-axis rotary chuck for tubes and profiles. This is separate from flat-sheet autofocus claims.

How is a controller selected?

Selection depends on axes, drive command compatibility, required I/O, plasma or gas equipment, THC hardware when required, machine safety and the complete workflow—not axis count alone.

Plasma and Oxy-Fuel CNC Controllers

Radonix provides motion-control solutions for CNC plasma and oxy-fuel cutting machines. The controller coordinates machine movement while external cutting equipment—including the plasma source, ignition system and height-control hardware—is integrated through appropriate signals.

Plasma CNC Controller

The Radonix plasma CNC controller provides coordinated X-Y or X-Y-Z motion for sheet-metal cutting. It supports configurable cutting signals, machine homing, acceleration control, digital I/O and real-time toolpath display.

CNC Plasma Controller with THC Integration

A Radonix CNC plasma controller with THC integration can exchange control signals with a compatible external torch height controller. The THC manages torch-to-material distance, while the CNC controller manages toolpath movement and the overall cutting sequence.

Torch Height Controller Integration

The torch height controller is normally a separate device connected to the plasma CNC system. Compatibility must be verified according to the THC signal type, plasma source, arc-voltage system and required communication method.

Oxy-Fuel CNC Controller

The Radonix oxy-fuel CNC controller can coordinate machine motion with ignition, preheating, oxygen control and cutting sequences. Timings and output functions can be configured according to the torch system and machine design.

Tube Plasma CNC Controller

For tube-cutting applications, a Radonix tube plasma CNC controller can coordinate linear and rotary motion to process profiles and cylindrical workpieces. The exact configuration depends on the number of axes, chuck mechanism, cutting-head arrangement and CAM output.
