Current generation:

RADONIX Smart and PC-Pro LAN controllers connect to the computer through a LAN network and command compatible servo or stepper drives using Pulse and Direction signals. The current range provides standard control for 2 to 6 motion axes, depending on the controller model.

CONTROL ARCHITECTURE

How commands and feedback move through the system

The current RADONIX generation operates as an open-loop system at the CNC controller level. This does not prevent a compatible servo drive and servo motor from operating as their own closed-loop servo system.

CNC CONTROLLER LEVEL

Open-loop command

RADONIX calculates the required position and sends the motion command to the connected drive. The current controller does not directly receive encoder position or verify that the physical axis has reached the commanded position.

SERVO SYSTEM LEVEL

Closed-loop motor control

Servo DriveServo MotorEncoder

The encoder returns the actual motor position to the servo drive. The drive compares actual and commanded position and corrects the motor-position error internally.

Servo and stepper compatibility

The main requirement is a drive that accepts a Pulse and Direction command input. RADONIX can work with stepper drives and servo systems using:

  • Incremental encoders
  • Absolute encoders
  • Servo drives with an internally closed feedback loop

The encoder type and communication among encoder, motor and drive are managed by the servo system and do not interfere with the current RADONIX controller.

Numerical precision is not mechanical accuracy

RADONIX software can process commanded positions with calculations of up to 12 decimal places. Actual machine accuracy also depends on:

  • Pulses configured per movement unit
  • Encoder resolution and servo electronic gearing
  • Mechanical transmission accuracy and backlash
  • Servo tuning
  • Machine assembly and structural quality

MOTION AND PROGRAMME EXECUTION

Configurable motion for the machine mechanics

Motion parameters can be tuned for individual axes and the complete toolpath, allowing the control behaviour to follow the required machine dynamics and machining quality.

Axis motion control

  • Simultaneous multi-axis control
  • Servo-motor and stepper-motor support
  • Pulse-per-unit configuration
  • Individual speed and acceleration per axis
  • Manual and automatic axis movement
  • Software travel limits
  • Real-time axis-position display
  • Work Zero and Machine Zero definition
  • Linear and circular interpolation
  • Standard G-code execution

Smooth and configurable motion

  • Axis speed and acceleration
  • Toolpath acceleration
  • Smoothness and S-curve-related settings
  • Junction behaviour
  • Short-segment management
  • Linear and circular interpolation

These parameters allow motion behaviour to be adjusted according to the mechanics of the machine and the required finish quality.

G-code and direct DXF processing

RADONIX supports standard G-code execution, programme control, line selection, toolpath display and starting from a selected line. Compatible HMIs can also process DXF files directly, including:

  • Scaling, rotation, mirroring and reversing
  • Selecting the toolpath starting point
  • Optimising the cutting sequence
  • Assigning operations to DXF colours

This can simplify two-dimensional cutting, routing, engraving and jewellery workflows.

Programme recovery

After an interruption, the operator does not normally need to restart the complete programme. RADONIX can retain programme information and continue from a selected G-code line.

The software can recover relevant states such as tool number, spindle commands and previous M-code conditions before restarting.

Safety requirement: after a complete power failure, verify machine position and safety conditions before machining resumes.

MACHINE I/O AND AUTOMATION

Configurable signals without unnecessary control logic

Predefined input and output functions can be assigned directly in many standard applications, reducing the need for complex macro programming.

Digital inputs

Configure machine feedback and operating commands such as:

  • Home and Limit sensors
  • Emergency and alarm signals
  • Cycle Start, Stop and Feed Hold
  • Tool and Z-Probe sensors
  • Door, pressure and auxiliary sensors

Digital outputs

Switch external equipment through relays, contactors, valves and related devices:

  • Spindle ON/OFF and rotation direction
  • Coolant and lubrication systems
  • Pneumatic valves and clamps
  • Vacuum and dust-extraction systems
  • Tool-change, release and clamping mechanisms
  • Auxiliary equipment and M-code actions

Each output can be configured around the actual machine process and operating logic.

Sensor-confirmed sequences

The software can activate an output, wait for confirmation from a position sensor and only then continue to the next stage. Typical uses include:

  • Pneumatic cylinders and clamping systems
  • Automatic doors and covers
  • Tool changers
  • Feeders and auxiliary mechanisms

Analogue and PWM control

Supported hardware configurations can receive or send variable signals for:

  • Feed rate and jogging-speed adjustment
  • Spindle-speed override
  • 0-10 V spindle and VFD speed control
  • PWM laser-power control
  • Pump, fan and auxiliary-equipment control

The signal type and voltage or current range depend on the selected controller or analogue module.

Machine safety:

RADONIX can monitor Emergency, Alarm, Hold, Home, Limit and machine-ready conditions, and can activate outputs according to defined axis-position zones. These software interlocks must be used together with an appropriate hardwired safety circuit.

COMMISSIONING AND MACHINE SETUP

Functions for alignment, tooling and surface measurement

Advanced homing and gantry alignment

Configure each axis with its own homing direction, speed, sequence and offset. Gantry machines with two motors on one axis can use two independent Home sensors so each side is referenced separately and the bridge is aligned during homing.

Soft travel limits can prevent movement outside the permitted working area.

Tool management and ATC

  • Move to the tool-change position
  • Release and clamp the tool
  • Control pneumatic mechanisms
  • Monitor tool-change sensors
  • Manage tool numbers and offsets
  • Measure tool length
  • Continue the machining programme

Probe and surface measurement

Z-Probe and tool-measurement functions can detect the workpiece surface, set the Z zero point and measure tool length.

In supported applications, multi-point surface scanning can compensate for surface variation – particularly for engraving and machining uneven surfaces.

CUSTOMISED USER INTERFACE

An HMI organised around the machine

The RADONIX HMI can be configured for the actual machine application instead of forcing operators to use a complicated general-purpose CNC screen.

Machine manufacturers can define:

  • Axis names and quantities
  • Operating buttons and pages
  • Sensor, machine-state and alarm displays
  • Machine parameters
  • Automatic operating cycles
  • Tool-change processes
  • Operator access levels
  • Machine-specific functions
