Introduction

One-line value prop: Fast, repeatable top-side pipe cutting (slots, windows, notches) with kerf compensation—no THC required.

Who uses it: Fabrication shops, HVAC/ducting, handrail & frame builders, maintenance workshops.
Works with: Flat-top pipe cutting rigs and gantries where the pipe is held in cradles/rollers without rotary (A) control. Optional Z lifter for pierce/cut heights.
Compatible controllers: PC-SMART 4A / PC-SMART 3AS / PC-PRO LAN 4A

Supported files: DXF and standard G-code (e.g., ArtCAM / PowerMill posts)

Important: This interface does not include Torch Height Control (THC).
For live arc-voltage height control, use XY Pipe Cutter + THC.

Machine & Kinematics

  • XY gantry positions the torch over a supported pipe; pipe is fixed in V-blocks/rollers .

  • Optional Z lifter for safe pierce height and retract (manual or macro-controlled), no arc-voltage loop.

  • Adjustable work envelope, homing, soft limits; simple seam/origin alignment aids.

Control & I/O

  • High-rate step/dir motion with stable velocity on arcs and long cuts.

  • I/O mapping for torch on/off, gas/oxygen valves, purge, alarms/beacons, full E-stop chain.

  • Safety interlocks: guards/doors, over-travel, gas pressure/flow checks.

  • Note: Arc-voltage inputs/THC logic are not used in this interface.

Software & Workflow

  • DXF-first workflow: Open a DXF and see an immediate path preview with bounding box.

  • Automatic Work Size (DX/DY) and Work Length calculation for quoting and time estimates.

  • Diameter (mm) Transform: optional projection helper to keep top-side features (windows/slots) dimensionally true on curved surfaces.

  • Pre-Cut (ms) and Cut (ms) timers for pierce dwell and cut-time macros; Cut Off toggle for dry-run.

  • Real-time Absolute/Relative positions and Velocity (mm/s); feed override slider and Play/Pause/Stop with safe resume.

  • Per-axis jog and quick Home; V(mm/s) and L(mm) fields for feed and step tuning; Ref (mm) for X0/Y0 origin.

  • Lead-in/Lead-out styles (arc, radial, tangential), kerf/offset, and corner smoothing.

  • Priority ordering (inner → outer) with auto pauses for clamp moves/consumable checks.

  • Job list with live line pointer (G1…); Run reports: time, cut length, pierces, pauses; operator notes saved with the job.

Standard Workflow

  1. Load DXF/G-code and review the preview (verify Work Size/Length).

  2. Set origin; square and secure the pipe in supports.

  3. Apply settings: kerf, lead-ins/outs, pierce dwell; set Z pierce/cut heights (if lifter present).

  4. Dry-run with Cut Off; confirm path order and clamp clearances.

  5. Run job with monitored pauses for clamps/consumables; adjust feed via override if needed.

  6. Save report and notes for repeatability.
